Bettina “Betty” SCHIANNI

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mom and Nana, Betty Schianni, at the age of 95.

Fernie, BC was much more than her home- it was an inseparable part of her life.  She was born and raised in Fernie, grew up among its beautiful mountains, married Angelo, worked, raised her family, and spent her final years in the community she loved so dearly.

For many years, she worked for the City of Fernie and took pride in being part of the community.  Throughout her life, she formed many close and lasting friendships.  Her friends remained very important to her, and she treasured the warmth, familiarity, and companionship of those who surrounded her.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son Alan, daughter-in-law Marie, and cherished grandchildren, Ashley and Tristan.  She will also be missed by her extended family, especially her sister Louise Stropky, and the many dear friends she made throughout her life.  She was deeply loved, and her passing leaves an emptiness in our lives that will take time to accept.

We would like to express our deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to John and Sue Pallone, whose kindness, friendship, and devotion to Mom meant more than words can say.  Over the years, they were always there for her, helping with everything from picking up a few things at the store, filing her taxes, and picking me up at the airport to offering companionship, reassurance, and countless acts of thoughtful help.  They really made Mom’s life easier, brighter, and less lonely simply by being nearby and caring so genuinely for her.  Knowing that John and Sue were there brought our family tremendous comfort and peace of mind.  Their generosity came from the heart, and the love and support they gave Mom can never truly be repaid.  We will carry lasting gratitude for every kindness they showed her.

Our family would like to express our profound gratitude to all the care aides and nurses at Rocky Mountain Village for the excellent and compassionate care they gave Mom throughout her stay.  Their gentle care, comforting words, and many thoughtful gestures helped her feel safe, comfortable, and cared for, especially during her final days.

We are also deeply grateful to Dr. Horwood and Dr. McBeath for their excellent medical care, kindness, and the many caring conversations we shared about Mom’s health.  Their support brought us comfort during a very difficult time.

We will miss Mom’s presence, her stories, her baking, her strength, and the comfort of simply knowing she was there.  Although adjusting to life without her will be difficult, we are grateful for the many years we shared and for the memories that will remain with us always.

After 95 years, her life’s journey has ended where it began- in the mountain community of Fernie that she always called home.

Mom, we had a great relationship, and I will always be grateful for the love, memories, and time we had together.  You will be forever loved, deeply missed, and warmly remembered.  Rest in peace.
