At the Library

By Mike Selby

Cranbrook Public Library

CranLibraryCranbrook’s favourite musician, band teacher, author and columnist has just published the first of what is sure to be many more collected works. Jim Cameron’s ‘Cranbrook Then and Now’ collects the best of his ‘Janus’ columns, which have chronicled the “often baffling and humorous” 130-year history of our town.

Tony De Saulles’ ‘The Deep Dark Sea’ explains numerous ocean mysteries to early readers, including the reasons lantern fish glow-in-the-dark, and why the viperfish can’t close its mouth.

It went by fast, but the Summer Reading Club has come to an end. Over 600 kids participated, making it our biggest summer yet. If you have not yet picked up your certificate or medals, they are being held for you at the front desk. Congratulations to everyone who participated this summer!

Storytime will resume on September 16.

The Friends of the Cranbrook Public Library and the Sunrise Rotary Club volunteers are working industriously to get everything ready for the Annual Fall Book Sale. This event will be held at the Ktunaxa Nation Gym from Wed. Sept. 30 to Sunday, Oct. 4.

There is still time to bring in your donations for this sale. Items must be in good condition. Please bring books, DVDs, CDs, videos and books on tape to the front circulation desk in the library. At this time we can’t accept encyclopedia sets or National Geographic Magazines. However, we especially appreciate pocket books. For further information please call Ursula Boy at 250-426-4707.

Our new website is up and running at: www.cranbrookpubliclibrary.ca.

There is much more than this happening at the library. Please check out our Facebook pages and our new website for more information and updates.

On display this month are the amazing paintings of Monique D. Bolduc, who uses an array of mediums including coffee.
