The Boom Booms headlining Invermere MusicFest

The Invermere Music Festival is just around the corner, and if you haven’t already familiarized yourself with the myriad of acts ready to burst out onto the main and side stages down at Kinsmen Beach on Sunday, August 3, allow us to make a couple of introductions.
For those who have heard of the headlining act The Boom Booms, you will know that their name reflects the way they will take to the stage at 9:15 p.m. Based in Vancouver and formed out in the woods on a tree planting job, the band describes itself as an alternative funk or indie soul, but whatever the adjectives it will be sure to get you moving and dancing long into the evening.
The band members: Aaron Ross, lead vocals/guitar; Geordie Hart, bass/vocals; Sean Ross, vocals/cavaquinho; Tom Van Deursen, electric guitar/vocals; Theo Vincent, percussion/vocals; and Richard Brinkman, drums, make up the six piece ensemble, whose debut album garnered critical praise from the folk and roots experts down in Nashville in 2008.
The group’s second album, ‘Hot Rum,’ was so well received it gained them second place in the Peak Performance Project, and now they are set to release a brand new album for the summer of 2014 full of groovetastic sound waves that will infect your very soul with the need to dance.
Earlier in the day, an act just as lively, but with a slightly different twist, will be taking the stage at 4:30 p.m. The Harpoonist and the Axe Murder may be a bit of an intimidating mouthful, but this deep down gritty blues duo will have you pining and smiling as their rich repertoire makes it’s way into your eardrums.
Made up of Shawn Hall (The Harpoonist), and Matthew Rogers (The Axe Murder), and “armed with an arsenal of harmonicas” these two young old souls will definitely open your eyes to how a full band isn’t always needed to create a full and complete sound.
Their musical influences range from the iconic songwriting of Willie Dixon to the boundary pushing of Jack White and Danger Mouse but their sound is distinctly their own, smothered in greasy, gritty soul and imbued with funk. Hall provides the rousing, rugged vocals and blues harmonica, while Rogers rips on the guitar and pounds the skins with his feet. Their music is unapologetic. It slaps you in the face and makes you sweat like it’s a sticky, summer night. It cuts you to the core.
So don’t forget to grab your tickets and head on down to Kinsmen Beach on Sunday, August 3 for the Invermere Music Festival!
