En Cervisia Novellus
Beer, books and author readings promise to make for a unique evening of fun and entertainment. That’s the format for En Cervisia Novellus (Books & Brews), hosted by Lotus Books and held downstairs at the Heid-Out Restaurant and Fisher Peak Brewing Company on Saturday, April 30 at 7 p.m.
The event is being organized by Erin Dalton, owner of Lotus Books and Jerry Auld, of the Canmore-based publishing company, Imaginary Mountain Surveyors.
Appropriately, April 30 in also Authors for Indies day (which Lotus Books will be celebrating all day in-store), so it is cause for double celebration.
“The eclectic lineup of author is fitting for our first beer and book event in Cranbrook,” said organizer Jerry Auld.
The lineup includes Fernie’s Angie Abdou and Keith Liggett, Cranbrook’s Keith Powell and Jim Cameron, Jerry Auld of Canmore and Cranbrook’s Brenda Ann Babinski. All the books are available for sale at the event and will be signed by the authors.
The evening of books and brews will see a pairing or matching of books with fine brews. Authors will read brief passages from their books which will be complimented by a corresponding Fisher Peak brew.

Participating author bios:
Jerry Auld: Author of Hooker & Brown, novel chasing the mystery of the eponymous peaks that were thought to be the highest in the Canadian Rockies for most of the 1800s, and led the early explorers to discover the Columbia Icefield and all the highest peaks. Jerry’s publishing is called Imaginary Mountain Surveyors.
Angie Abdou: Angie is a noted and award winning Canadian fiction writer. Her most recent novel, Between, was published by Arsenal Pulp Press in 2014. Her shorter works have been published in several Canadian journals. She has also published Anything Boys Can Do, The Bone Cage and The Canterbury Trail. Angie Abdou is an Assistant Professor, English and Creative Writing in the Centre for Humanities at Athabasca University.
Keith Powell: Living in the Shadow of Fisher Peak is his first historical novel that tells the story of Jack Fisher, the discoverer of gold on Wild Horse Creek and namesake of Mount Fisher along with his second book Raising Kain, the adventurous life of Conrad Kain. His most recent book is the Fisher Peak Chronicles, a collection of Mt. Fisher themed stories about the prominent peak.
Keith Liggett: He will feature beautifully handcrafted book (from Fernie’s Clawhammer Press) of poetry called Like Socks In The Dryer. He also is the Fernie author of Island Lake Lodge—The Cookbook, Keith Liggett’s beautiful oversize cookbook is packed with delicious recipes and great photos from the chefs at Island Lake Lodge and another culinary delight called The Fernie Originals.
Jim Cameron: Popular history buff and Daily Townsman columnist Jim Cameron has produced an exquisite compilation of his newspaper columns about the history and intrigue of Cranbrook’s distance and not-so-distance past. His photo heavy book is called Cranbrook: Then and Now.
Brenda Ann Babinski: A local columnist (her work appears in e-KNOW), Brenda Ann Babinski is a writer, speaker, seeker and past life tourist. She lives in the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia. Featured in Wishes Fulfilled and I Can See Clearly Now by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, Brenda has had the honour of sharing her life experiences with very large audiences.
