Steamboat Festival returns to Edgewater for 11th run

The 11th annual Steamboat Mountain Music Festival returns this weekend, July 8 to 10.

Starting Friday, July 8, Edgewater residents are encouraged to engage in porch parties, while Sunday, July 10 features music workshops at the Edgewater All Saints Churchyard.

The live music event runs Saturday from noon to 10 p.m., followed by dance in the community hall until midnight.

Performing will be local and visiting acts, including Columbia River Dancers, A-Muse Troupe, Kootenay Lately, Broke Down Trucks, The Wardens, Tiller’s Folly, Patty D/Emily Rawbone & The Postmistress, Fairwater 54, Rockinomix, Tennyson King and Fernie’s Shred Kelly.

Visiting artist Tennyson King, hailing from Hong Kong and Canada, is stoked to attend the festival.

“I am so excited to come to Edgewater and play at the Steamboat Mountain Music Festival for the first time. I have driven through the area many times on past Canadian tours and I love the mountainous landscape there, mixed with all the beautiful rivers and hot springs in the area,” he said.

“I’ve heard some wonderful things about this festival through my travels, and can’t wait to share my music and be a part of the community for the weekend. We’ll be offering a fun concert on Saturday and then a restorative healing sound meditation workshop on the Sunday. Come say hi!”

Tennyson released his debut album in January 2022, Good Company, and is touring in support of it.

A true singer-songwriter who brings a jovial personality to the stage, he captures audiences first with his reverberant, edgy sound and then with his humorous stories of life-on-the-road. Imagine a Jack Johnson, John Mayer and Red Hot Chilli Peppers hybrid.

Before releasing Good Company, Tennyson released two EPs and toured across Canada, Australia, Mainland China, Hong Kong, Brazil and parts of Southeast Asia.

He’s also performed with notable acts such as Paul Dempsey, Paul Woseen, Yirrmal, Geoff Achison, Clare Bowditch, Bashar Murad, Basia Bulat, Whitehorse, Sloan, Elliot Broode, The Jerry Cans, and Blackie & The Rodeo Kings.

You can check out Tennyson’s latest live music video for the album standout track, This Life. As well, check out the previously released singles, What Am I DoingIt Ain’t EasyShare This MomentSlow Down, and Life On Shore (Carry Me Away).

Steamboat tickets are available online and at Pips Country and the Edgewater Post Office and also available at the porch parties on Friday evening.
