Still time to help musicians create legacy for valley

wvmwcindigogoA group of musicians from the valley are teaming up to produce a Christmas album, with the aim of giving back to the community.

“Windermere Valley Musicians Who Care is a new volunteer run, non profit organization working to produce a Christmas album with local musicians for the 2013 Christmas season. The proceeds of this album will go 50% to the local food bank and 50% to the musical community in the valley through scholarships, grants, and other donations. Anything raised above and beyond the costs of producing the album will go directly to our cause!” Explains their Indiegogo website, which also contains a video of member Bill Cropper explaining the group’s plans.

Windermere Valley Musicians Who Care members include Cropper, Kurt Reichel, Ben Cameron, Bruce Childs, Fraser Smith and Mike Smith.

“Musicians have been volunteering to raise money for the food bank for years. This project represents an opportunity to contribute over the long-term through album sales year after year. We also are creating a means of fostering music in the valley. This will support musicians or organizations in need of help to: further education in music; supply/repair instuments/equipment for those less fortunate; record or tour,” their website outlines.

“Your contribution will help us to get this organization established and feeding the community literally and metaphorically. The food bank is always in need of as much help as they can get, especially entering into the winter season, when this album will create most of its benefit annually,” the musicians state.

Their Indigogo website allows you to make an online donation. The musicians are just over half way to their fundraising goal of $3,000. At the time of publication of this story (May 27), there are 43 days left for folks to dig into their pockets and contribute to this giving cause.

The recording is shaping up to be a who’s who of valley musical talent.
