We are Drs. Don and Whitney Henker and we are excited to announce the opening of our new Optometry office, Kootenay Family Vision Care, in Cranbrook.

We have been proudly serving our patients in Cranbrook since 1997, and are happy to continue in our mission to provide compassionate and exceptional vision care to families of the East Kootenay.

We are located inside the Baker Professional Centre (the Cranbrook Mall), just down the hall from the F.W. Green Clinic and Fisher Peak Family Practice. Our office hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays and evenings by appointment. We are closed on statutory holidays.

Janice and Diedra are the new receptionists who will welcome our patients to the office.

We offer comprehensive vision care for people of all ages, using the latest technology and advanced equipment to evaluate and monitor eye health.

Our comprehensive exam includes digital photography of the retina, intraocular pressure check, visual field screening, refraction, and eye health evaluation.

A wellness screening of the retina is also available using advanced optical coherence tomography (OCT), a medical imaging technique that uses light to capture high resolution images of the layers of the retina and optic nerve. This technology helps us to evaluate and monitor retinal problems such as macular degeneration, and glaucoma.

Dr. Whitney Henker has had a special interest in children’s vision since the inception of the British Columbia Optometric Association’s Vision First Check program in 1997, and welcomes young people to the office for a fun and friendly eye exam experience. We have also implemented electronic health records in the office that will help us share health information with other providers, as well as allow access of the personal health record to the patient via a patient portal.

We have enjoyed many years of working with the medical community in Cranbrook, following your diabetic patients, those who take high risk medications, as well as co-managing eye disease with the local Ophthalmologists. We have educated our new staff to accept walk- in emergencies as a priority from our local doctor’s clinics. We have many years of experience in monitoring the eye health of our patients, as well as helping them achieve great vision with contact lenses, including multifocal contact lenses that allow for both reading and good distance vision. In addition to using great quality optical lenses, we are also offering a full optical dispensary, with beautiful frame choices and high quality sunglasses for people of all ages.

As you are fully aware, advancements in technology and equipment have changed exponentially over the last couple of decades, and the office we opened in 2015 is dramatically different than the one we opened in town in 1997. We are excited and enthusiastic to continue the eye care for our patients in this community and we welcome you to come in and take a look at the new office.
