Patio applications now being taken
Last year we witnessed the first of the Fernie curbside patios.
Having been involved with the City Beautification Committee and the Summer Social Committees it is evident that there is a need for additional outside seating and an area where people can sit, relax and take in the beauty of our downtown and its unique backdrop.
The provision of adequate seating is an important part of a well-maintained area and additional seating encourages people to stay longer, spend more money in our community and experience the social aspect of outside seating.
Curbside public seating patios can offer well-designed seasonal, outdoor public spaces and seating. During warm-weather months, when the demand to spend time outdoors increases, curbside seating patios may temporarily replace a few parking spots but they offer so much more for our residents and visitors. They will also help beautify 2nd Avenue if the use of attractive landscaping is a requirement.
Please be reminded that applications for patios for the summer of 2014 are being taken now.
