As a City Councillor, Ron Popoff will continue to focus on controlling spending and taxes, fixing roads, removing barriers for business, and revitalizing downtown Cranbrook. Ron believes in examining housing availability to bring new workers to the community and to support younger generations in becoming homeowners.

During his Public Health career, Ron advocated for healthy communities. He has a strong management background and knows how government works.

Ron enjoyed serving the community through his earlier work with Kinsmen, and now continues to do so with Rotary. Ron has coached youth sports, volunteered for the 55+ Games, and safety patrolled during the Gran Fondo. He is on the Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce Board, the Executive of the Kootenay & Boundary Local Governments, the Cranbrook Social Planning Society, and is an alternate RDEK Director.

Ron is devoted to serving the community and believes business is the cornerstone of Cranbrook’s growth and prosperity.

My Cranbrook roots date back to the 1920s when my great grandfather chose to raise his family here. Now, my wife and I are raising our children in Cranbrook, and it’s our hope that they too will settle here.

I would be honoured to serve on Cranbrook City Council and do my part in building a strong, sustainable city for my family and yours.

I believe that Cranbrook needs further economic development, increased housing for all income levels, and community growth. We must also stay focused on infrastructure, road work, and making our city a clean and welcoming environment.

As Operations Manager at Northstar Motors – a high-volume, customer-focused business – my work experience can serve me well on Council. I am confident that it has given me the strong fiscal knowledge and problem-solving skills required.

If successful, I will strive for satisfaction for the citizens of Cranbrook.

Hello Cranbrook! My name is Curt Rasmussen, married 16 years to my best friend, Leah. With our 4 children, we live and work right here in Cranbrook. I’m a 10 year veteran of law enforcement, a graduate of  the University of Calgary’s Political Science International Relations Program, and a corporate and personal leadership/success coach, speaker, and trainer with business locally but having a continental and potentially soon, international reach. Having lived in several places internationally, Cranbrook with it’s great people and location has become my favourite. Here, Leah and I have chosen to raise and provide opportunity to our children.

Norma works as a part time high school teacher, is a former forester and currently sits on Cranbrook city council. She has made Cranbrook her home for over twenty years and raised three children in this community.

Norma served as a volunteer for a number of organizations over the years including Citizens for a Livable Cranbrook, Kimberley North Star Ski Racers, Cranbrook Minor Lacrosse and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. While on city council, she served on the Public Library Board and the Cranbrook History Centre Board. As a city councillor, she represented the city at a number of community events and made an effort to meet a wide variety of Cranbrook citizens.

“I have tried to represent the interests of the broader community at Council.”

Norma’s priorities for the upcoming term include continuing with infrastructure improvements- roads, water, sewer and recreation facilities, responsible growth, downtown revitalization and economic development.

Mike Peabody is part owner of The Choice Shop in Downtown Cranbrook. He is an advocate for downtown vibrancy, and he is an active member of the Downtown Business Association. Mike is also the newest member of our City Council. Mike won the 2017 Bi-Election, and he truly enjoys his role as a City Councillor.

Mike moved to Cranbrook at the age of ten. After high school, Mike studied at the College of the Rockies. He did the first two years of his degree at COTR, then transferred to the University of New Brunswick. After finishing his degree in Business Administration, Mike moved back to Cranbrook. Mike, his wife, and his two young daughters are proud to call The Kootenays home.

I have an emotional connection to Cranbrook; I’ve lived and worked here for many years. My interest in civic service is the natural next step in a lifelong commitment to community involvement.

I am a self-made individual: accomplished and involved. A nurse and nurse-educator, I have achieved some outstanding professional recognition. Invested in the people of Cranbrook, the Melodie Hull Endowment Fund for Mental Health & Addictions grants funds yearly to help those in need. I’ve volunteered in a myriad of ways locally and abroad. I’m an author, public speaker, and involved in the arts.

I bring professional skills, experience and insights. On Council, I’ll work collaboratively towards a balanced, strategic and well-managed plan for economic and social development.

I’ll work for you. That’s very important to me. You have voice. I want to hear your concerns and address, incorporate or resolve them with you, my co-councillors, and the Mayor.

Danielle Eaton is proud of her recent term; touting the Roads Program, Idlewild, building permit growth, and increased downtown vibrancy as achievements- while adding that exponential growth is providing infrastructure capacity issues, including changes in water quality and a housing crisis that need immediate addressing.

Over her term, Eaton has made herself available to residents through phone, email, and social media; noting that transparency and effective communication is Council’s responsibility and debt to the residents who elect them to their position.

Eaton and her husband Clint have three children, each own a business in Cranbrook, and support many local organizations; including Cranbrook Community Theatre, Cranbrook & District 4H, the Sam Steele Sweethearts Youth Ambassador Program, Cranbrook Minor Ball, the Kootenay ICE and more. Eaton created fundraising events over her term that have raised closed to $100,000 for Cranbrook. She is the creator and organizer of the Kootenay Game Changer Awards.

As a third generation resident, Wayne is extremely proud and 100% committed to the City of Cranbrook. He started with Cranbrook Fire in 1985 and moved to the Provincial Fire Commissioners Office in 1991 where he spent 15 years, the last as Manager for the BC Interior.

In 2005 Wayne returned home to undertake the position of Director of the City’s Fire and Emergency Services, which enabled him to utilize his leadership skills and experience to benefit the organization and his home town.

With over 23 years of experience in municipal and provincial government management he has developed sound and effective strategic business and decision- making principles.

Recently retired, Wayne is able to contribute full time to Council and community interests. He is a believer in the Kaizen principle that we can always do better through continual improvement in self, organization and community.

Wesly Graham was born in Cranbrook and has lived here for a good part of his life. Wesly’s family has been in the Cranbrook area for 3 generations. Wes loves Cranbrook and over the past four years has gained knowledge and perspective on how the City of Cranbrook has evolved to where it is today.

Wesly has played a key role, with the rest of Council, in ushering Cranbrook into its next exciting chapter. The past four years have consisted of major road works, the Idlewild Dam reconstruction, multiple park upgrades, working with BC Housing and multiple developers for affordable housing solutions, and also breaking down many barriers inhibiting business growth. Cranbrook has seen substantial growth in building permit values since this team has been elected.

A vote for Wesly Graham means continued healthy growth, investments in our infrastructure and roads, and a vibrant downtown. The future for Cranbrook is bright!

I’m excited to run for council to further contribute to positive changes I see in infrastructure, beautification, and community based initiatives like the Farmer’s Market and Summer Sounds. I’ll address issues that impede progress, such as fragmentation, derelict buildings and unkempt lots. I will propose a vision to vitalize our downtown area, assist those working in Social Planning and Services, address affordable housing and promote open, responsible government. As well, I believe the City should be fiscally responsible to taxpayers.

I have much experience, including RDEK Director and many boards such as EKRHD and CBT. I am a devoted, tireless volunteer for many charities and service groups, and an active participant in the Arts. I founded and am a director of Fisher Peak Performing Artists Society.
I love this city, and I would love to be part of the vision and planning that can make our community even better.
