Invermere’s busiest week of the year

It is event extravaganza time in Invermere this week.

Beginning tomorrow, July 20 and also on July 21, is the annual Pynestock concert at Pynelogs Cultural Centre. Billed as ‘two hours of peace and music,’ Pynestock showcases a variety of musical talent in the gorgeous setting of Pynelogs and Kinsmen Beach Park. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the shows begin at 8 p.m.

On Thursday, July 22, the 13th annual Bull Riding in the Rockies stampedes into town. Starting at 5 p.m., at the Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena, this thrilling bull busting event features a cowboy dinner, auction and crowning of the bull riding king and queen. A dance follows the rodeo events, at 8 p.m.

And with those two big events still fresh in memory, residents and visitors dive headlong into Saturday, July 23, and the 24th annual Valley Appreciation Day.

Not unlike other years, a change is in order this year.

Festivities, which include the service club free pancake breakfast starting at 9 a.m., run until noon on 13th Street (from the Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena to the bank corners). In the previous few years the event has taken place on Seventh Avenue (main street). The reason behind the switch is to utilize the wider street for booths, displays and more. Entertainment this year includes the Gagne family logging show from Canal Flats and kids’ entertainer Oso Simple.

Fun and games wrap up downtown at noon but festivities keep on rolling from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. with the Lake Windermere Regatta at Kinsmen Beach.
