The Lake Windermere Ambassadors’ program revived what was once the biggest annual event of the year in the District of Invermere – the regatta.

The reason for the move, explained Heather Leschied, event co-organizer, was the fact that it made complete sense.

The Lake Ambassadors promote and work for the health of heavily-used Lake Windermere and the regatta, an old fashioned sailboat race, works in perfect concert with that theme. Along with the sailboat race, organizers had Kinsmen Beach and Taynton Bay teeming with other events, such as canoe races and more.

Participation wasn’t exactly what organizers were hoping for but the atmosphere at Invermere’s famous, sheltered beach was perfect for family fun.
