Requiem for a Glacier finally comes to Invermere! Please check the Wildsight Invermere event page for accurate dates and times for each day, June 25-30th. The opening reception is on June 25 7-9pm. Everyone is welcome.
Paul Walde‘s sound performance and video installation is a haunting lament for the world’s melting glaciers. Its musical themes also draw attention to our local Purcell mountains and the decades-long struggle to keep the Jumbo valley free from development.
Performed and filmed on Farnham Glacier in 2013, the oratorio for choir and orchestra includes a Latin translation of the BC government’s press release announcing the approval of Jumbo Glacier Resort Municipality. The third and fourth movements reveal the impacts of climate change by converting temperature readings in the area from 1969 to 2010 into musical notation.
This installation plays on a big screen in a loop of 40 minutes, so drop by any time and stay as long as you like! Admission is free. This event is in collaboration with CV Arts.
