17 years in the making – transfer station opened

RDEK board chair Rob Gay addresses the grand opening crowd.

There were sunny skies July 2 for the grand opening of the new Fernie Transfer Station, located at 6000 Highway 3. The new facility includes a full yellow bin recycling area; bins for wood waste, metals, and yard waste; areas for auto batteries, propane tanks and tires; and a new reuse centre.  The reuse centre accepts most household items, provided they are in good working condition.  It’s free to drop items off and free to pick them up.

The event also featured a composter sale. Here RDEK Summer Student Jenny Byford provides some composting tips.
