Congratulations to our Volunteers of the Year for Regional District of East Kootenay Electoral Areas F and G!

The Electoral Area F Volunteer of the Year is Windermere’s Karen Taylor-Browne, who has played an active role in the Windermere Community Association.

During her six years as treasurer, she sought out numerous grants for much-needed upgrades at the Community Hall. Thanks to her efforts, the hall is more energy efficient, viable and attractive for users.

Taylor-Browne has also been instrumental in the success of the annual Windermere Fall Fair, putting in countless hours doing everything from organizing volunteers to dealing with the finances and expenses.

Electoral Area G Volunteer of the Year is Shawn Murray, who has volunteered for the Wilmer Water Works Improvement District for over 10 years, maintaining and repairing the water system.

Murray is also involved in the Community Club, has spent countless hours on the current community hall renovation, and has been instrumental in organizing the annual Christmas fireworks in Wilmer. He purchases the fireworks and lights them off, and you can’t miss his house during December because it is arguably the most lit-up house in the valley covered with thousands of decorations and lights.
