Bear awareness program going door-to-door
City of Fernie residents living in high bear traffic areas can expect knocks on their doors Oct. 28 when a joint task force undertakes a door-to-deer bear awareness education program.
Originally planned for June, the exercise had to be cancelled due to flooding.
However, BC Conservation Officer Service members, provincial Natural Resource Officers, City of Fernie Bylaw Services and WildSafeBC members will be now be going door-to-door next Monday, reports Elk Valley Bear Aware.
“The objective of the exercise is to educate the community about the importance of bear proofing properties and the legislations in place addressing the provision of food (by intent or neglect) to dangerous wildlife,” Elk Valley Bear Aware explained.
