The City of Fernie would like to introduce you to the Beautification Committee. This committee is a select committee of the city and functions in an advisory capacity to council. The focus is to assist with installations and displays of seasonal lighting, decorations, banners and flowers for festive occasions to promote community and cultural events for tourism and marketing purposes, instill community pride and enhance the community’s visual aesthetic.

The committee is made up of community volunteers and council representation with assistance from staff resources in the Operations and Leisure Services departments.  Our goals and guidelines are to formulate recommendations to council that consider beautification initiatives for public spaces, commercial and residential areas and prioritizes them within established framework.

Currently we are in communications with the highway business owners in an effort to create more participation with decorative winter lighting. We also liaise with other groups throughout Fernie and have been involved with projects such as the patio policy initiative, signage strategy and Fernie in Bloom. The committee is working toward a thorough assessment of all our parks, downtown and highway areas with an intention to standardize and beautify our amenities.

At this time we would like to thank you all for your efforts to beautify our community and downtown. Hanging baskets, planters, landscaping, sidewalk sweeping and shoveling, monitoring your garbage dumpster levels and holiday decorating all add to the ambiance, character, charm, impression and enjoyment of Fernie for residents and visitors alike.

For the upcoming winter we appreciate your continued support by maintaining your sidewalk frontage and alley ways in a safe, clean and aesthetically pleasing manner. We recommend you use ‘safe for concrete’ products for ice control.

Currently we are looking for interested members to join our committee. And, we are always interested in your feedback, ideas and participation as dedicated citizens of our beautiful community.
