Stress relief

Everyone deals with stress in their life and with certain career choices the stress level can be front and centre.

Police work certainly is one of those careers that can bring along some unwanted stress. Add wife gone crazy with home renovations; a guy has to find some way to relieve the stress factor.

I think there is a reality show there I can pitch here. Back to stress relief. For me it’s fishing when I can fit it in.

This weekend I decided I needed time to find harmony in my life so off to Susan Lake I go with my small boat. Once out in the lake I realize I failed to put the leader line on my fly rod. Fortunately I brought my backup rod.

First time in eight years the motor started to act up. While working to get it started I lost my balance and cut my left middle finger. Used my strong arm to open my medical kit, my emergency first aid training stopped the bleeding. I then grabbed a can of Coors light (medical beer) to dull the pain.

After spouting out Serbian swear words my father taught me, I opted for shore to continue work on the motor. On shore while giving the rope a hard pull to start the motor my hand slips and my finger hits the depth finder causing instant pain and damage. With my weak hand I grab the medical kit as well as another can of medical beer and treat this finger. I’m thinking Monday can’t come any sooner.

I thought to myself, this stress relieving method sure is working well for me.  Harmony was gained when the motor started and my injured hands reeled in a fish. Did I mention I needed a bigger boat?
