Charges laid after Creston apartment fire

A Creston woman has been charged with Arson Causing Bodily Harm following an apartment fire in Creston last week.

On April 30, Creston Fire Rescue and RCMP attended to a basement suite fire at an apartment building on 18th Avenue in Creston.

Several people were rescued from inside the structure. Unfortunately one of the individuals suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital and is currently listed in critical condition.

The cause of the fire was found to be highly suspicious and a team of specialized investigators were called in.

Members of Creston RCMP’s General Investigation Section (GIS), assisted by the South East District GIS based out of Kelowna, worked diligently to identify a person of interest, who was eventually arrested on May 4.

On May 5, 21-year-old Creston resident Elisha Jimmy was charged with Arson Causing Bodily Harm contrary to Section 433 of the Criminal Code. She has been remanded into custody with her next court appearance on May 11, 2015.
