City makes changes with irrigation system use

Public Works makes changes to fall in line with new city watering restrictions

Public Works in the City of Cranbrook has shut off the majority of the city owned irrigation systems in order to fall in line with the new watering restrictions brought into effect last week.

A number of parks will continue to be irrigated because they are heavily used sports fields or new planted grass or planted areas.

The spaces that will continue to be irrigated include:

– 9th Ave Connector; Rotary Train Station; Lions Soccer Field; Quad Ball Park; Confederation Park; Rotary Park;
Clock Tower Square; Moir Park (pictured above);
 Fire Hall;
Western Financial Place.

Although these areas will continue to be irrigated for the foreseeable future, the water consumption at these locations will be reduced by 10%.

If additional watering restrictions are needed and the irrigation at these parks needs to be shut down, these playfields may have to be closed to public use to prevent costly damage to those areas.

The new city-wide watering restrictions went into effect on Wednesday, August 19, reducing the number of days per week that residents and businesses are able to water lawns and gardens from three days per week to only two.

Even numbered properties can water on Thursdays and Sundays while odd numbered properties can water on Tuesdays and Saturdays. No one waters on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays until further notice. On your permitted days watering can occur from 4 to 11 a.m. and from 7 to 11 p.m. This covers all outdoor water use including: washing of vehicles, RVs, campers, boats, windows and the filling of kids’ pools or hot tubs.

These restrictions will remain in place until further notice.
