Cranbrook organizations get Gaming Grant funds

Four Cranbrook-based organizations are receiving Community Gaming Grants from the B.C. government worth a total of $125,000.

Organizations Receiving Grants: Royal Canadian Legion Branch #24 – Ladies Auxiliary – $10,000; Lions Club of Cranbrook – $22,000; Canadian Mental Health Association – $75,000; Shrine Club #4 – East Kootenay – $18,000.

“It is essential that we support organizations such as these in Cranbrook, as they are continually supporting and enhancing the lives of our fellow community members,” stated Kootenay East MLA Bill Bennett.

Across British Columbia, 133 recipients will share $6,590,160 in the latest round of grants.

Grant recipients include programs for Human and Social Services and Public Safety.

Community Gaming Grants help local groups provide important services for British Columbia families.

Community Gaming Grants allow non-profit organizations to apply for provincial gaming revenues.

Last fiscal year, in 2011/12, our government distributed a total of $135 million in gaming grants for eligible community programs and services.

More than 5,300 community groups benefited from funding during 2011/12.
