Crime Stoppers fundraising has begun

This is one door-to-door campaign the RCMP have no problems alerting residents to.

On June 3, the East Kootenay Crime Stoppers Society launched its 2015 fundraising campaign, again using the help of 4 Elements Consulting Inc., representatives of which will be going door-to-door in the East Kootenay area selling a coupon cards to raise funds for East Kootenay Crime Stoppers.

“Many crimes have been solved thanks to the hard work of Crime Stoppers. You can support your local Crime Stoppers program with t he purchase of the coupon package that offers great discounts on products and services from our local Crime Stoppers business sponsors,” said Eric Ausman, East Kootenay Crime Stopper Coordinator for over 20 years. “Canvassers are now out going door-to-door; they are wearing orange jackets with the 4 Elements logo on the front as well as Crime Stoppers Fundraiser. If you are still wary of them, by all means ask for identification. The canvassers carry proper Crime Stopper security badges with them at all times.”

Canvassers with 4 Elements are selling the coupon card offering many discounts and savings from businesses and organizations in the East Kootenay area. The coupon card, with tax, sells for $28 and canvassers have the technology to accept debit cards at the door.

East Kootenay Crime Stoppers’ last campaign raised in 2013 raised $8,200 for the program. This will be the fourth time the program has been run in the East Kootenay area.

“This fund raiser is an important source of revenue for our program along with our annual Frisbee toss at a Kootenay ICE game,” said Ausman.

Crime Stoppers is a community program supported by community partnerships and financed through charitable fundraising. The funds raised go directly to pay tipsters their approved rewards from helping to solve crime in our communities and to yearly costs to operate the program.

Since 1992 East Kootenay Crime Stoppers have assisted in the recovering of stolen property and removing drugs from our communities valued in excess of $4,200,000, while paying out approximately $27,000 in rewards. Crime Stoppers has assisted in 194 cases cleared, including 150 arrests.

East Kootenay Crime Stoppers would like to thank all the businesses that have provided services or product for the coupon book and all the citizens that will be helping the program to continue on successfully.
