Crowsnest man killed in dirt bike collision

A 21-year-old Crowsnest Pass, Alta. man was killed yesterday (April 2) in a head-on dirt bike collision near Lake Koocanusa, about 75 km southwest of Fernie.

Elk Valley RCMP report they arrived on scene at about 4:15 p.m. and upon investigation determined that two motocross bikes had collided head-on, with one of the riders succumbing to his injuries and dying at the scene of the accident.

The group of individuals from Alberta was in the area riding motocross bikes on some of the back country trails.

The investigation has further revealed that both riders were ascending up opposite sides of the same hill and collided upon reaching the top. All riders were experienced in the operation of motocross bikes and all were wearing protective riding gear, RCMP detailed.

The deceased has been identified as a 21-year-old male from the Crowsnest Pass. No name is being released at this time pending full notification of next of kin.

The police have ruled out foul play and will continue to work in assisting the British Columbia Coroners Service with their investigation.
