Emergency Awareness Day June 7 in Sparwood

There will be something for everyone June 7 during Emergency Awareness Day in Sparwood.

Running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sparwood Recreational Centre (367 Pine Ave.) and hosted by the Sparwood Fire Department, the event will feature kids’ activities such as the hose target test, fire engine rides and ladder truck water fountain.

Adults can get information on safety, bear awareness, emergency preparedness and recruitment opportunities, get a tour and close up look at various public agency equipment and see demonstrations such as auto extrication, wildfire control, bear trap and more.

Spend the day and enjoy a bite at the Lion’s Club Barbeque while the kids cool off in the splash pad. There might even be some surprises that you won’t want to miss.

“We have 23 participants that will have informational material, equipment tours and a variety of demonstrations related to public safety and emergency preparedness,” said Dean Spry, Deputy Director of Fire Services.

Along with the fire department, agencies attending include: RCMP, BC Ambulance, BC Sheriffs, STARS, BC Wildlife Management, Canadian Armed Forces, Canadian Air Search and Rescue, Interior Health and numerous others.
