Corporate Strategic Plan approved
City of Fernie council April 9 approved the 2013 – 2017 Corporate Strategic Plan. The Action Plan identifies the specific steps that will be taken to achieve the strategic objectives that are geared toward operations, procedures, and processes. They describe who does what, when it will be completed, and how the organization knows when steps are completed.
Carbon Offsets
Council rescinded its March 11 motion to fulfill their obligation to being carbon neutral for 2012 through the bulk purchase of Darkwoods.
Ms. Megan Lohmann provided the attached power point presentation at the Committee of the Whole (COTW) meeting on April 8 regarding possible community options for carbon reduction.

Fernie Pets Society is launching its own Spay Neutering Incentive Program (SNiP), which will offer discounted spay/neutering for owned cats and free spay/neutering for homeless or feral cats.

Bylaws
Zoning Bylaw No. 1750, Amendment Bylaw No. 142, Bylaw No. 2206, 2013 for Lots 1-9, District Lot 4138, Kootenay District, Strata Plan NES2856 was given third reading and referred to the Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure for approval.
Zoning Bylaw No. 1750, Amendment Bylaw No. 145, Bylaw No. 2210, 2013 for Parcel A(see2422IA) Lot 1, Block 51, District Lot 4588, Kootenay District Plan 734A was given third reading and referred to the Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure for approval.
Dog Licencing, Regulating and Impounding Bylaw No. 1995, 2005 – Council directed staff to bring forward a bylaw amendment that will remove the increased licence fee for breed specific dogs at the Committee of the Whole.
Testing for selenium
Water Testing for selenium – Council directed staff to begin testing for selenium and other items on a quarterly basis at the Committee of the Whole meeting.
