Fernie Council Connection
1.1. – Development Variance Permit No. 327 for Lindsey Kelley (1021 9th Avenue) Lot 2, Block 87, District Lot, 4588, Kootenay District Plan 902.
City of Fernie council May 24 issued the development variance permit to Lindsey Kelley, to legalize the siting and vary setbacks and projections of the sundeck and dwelling attached to the existing garage, following an informal hearing and adoption of Bylaw No. 2204. There were no written or public submissions from the floor received in relation to this application.
1.2 – Development Variance Permit No. 287 for Home Hardware Stores Limited for Lot A, District Lot 4136, Kootenay District, Plan EPP8871, except Plan EPP18690.
Council issued the development variance permit to Home Hardware Stores Ltd., to vary the maximum height requirements for screening or fencing in the front and side yard setbacks, following an informal hearing. There were no written or public submissions from the floor received in relation to this application.
Bylaws
2.1. – Bylaw No. 2204, Zoning Bylaw No. 1750, Amendment Bylaw No. 140, 2013 for Lindsey and Tom Kelley for Lot 2, Block 87, District Lot 4588, Kootenay District Plan 902 ( 1021-9th Avenue). Council adopted the bylaw which changed their zoning from R1-Single Family Residential to R1B Single Detached Plus Residential.
Other business items
3.1. – Appointment to Beautification Committee
Council appointed Mr. Paul Wortley to fill the vacancy left by Ms. Dillon on the Beautification Committee as a member of the public at large.
3.2. – Max Turyk Playground – Contract Award
Council awarded the Design, Supply and Installation of the Max Turyk Playground to Rec Tech Industries Inc. for the contract price of $74,915.26 inclusive of all applicable taxes.
3.3. – Licence of Occupation for the Fernie Hotel & Pub at 691-1st Avenue for the construction of an outdoor patio. Council directed staff to post notice of their intention to dispose of City property located adjacent to 691 1st Avenue and further; to gather the views of residents that may be affected by the Fernie Hotel’s application to the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch to amend their licence to add a new outdoor patio.
3.4. – Request from the Fernie Chamber of Commerce to manage and host a beer garden on Wednesday evenings during July and August as part of the Summer Socials 2013. Council granted permission for use of city property for the purpose of hosting Summer Social in anticipation that a completed application will be forthcoming.
3.5. – Request from the Fernie Fire Department for permission to use Fire Hall for 26th Annual Hamburger Days. Council authorized use of the Fire Hall for the event.
