Fernie Council Connection

The following is a breakdown of what occurred during the July 13 City of Fernie council meeting.

1. AGREEMENTS, LICENCES PERMITS & POLICIES

FernieCityHallEvening1.1 Development Variance Permit No. DVPA-373    Council authorized the issuance of Development Variance Permit No. DVP- 373 for the property at 38 Ridgemont Drive to vary the minimum side yard setback for the construction of an accessory building along a portion of the north property line.

1.2 Offer to Purchase Agreement with BC Hydro  City council authorized the Mayor and Chief Administrative Officer to execute the Offer to Purchase agreement with BC Hydro and Power to allow the sale of city owned land located adjacent to the Fernie Substation to accommodate an expansion of that Substation for the sum of $175,000 to British Columbia Hydro and Power Authority.

1.3 2014 Annual Report    Council approved the 2014 Annual Municipal Report. The report is a comprehensive review of the past year’s activities and a useful reporting tool that promotes a greater understanding to the public of municipal responsibilities and priorities.

2. OTHER INFORMATIONAL ITEMS

2.1 2015 Roads Capital Program Council awarded the 2015 Road Program consisting of resurfacing work in Mountview and paving of 6th Avenue for the tender price of $1,171,976.75 exclusive of GST to Interoute Construction Ltd. – BA Blacktop (Cranbrook).

2.2 Lions Club re: Demolition Derby  Council authorized the use of the City of Fernie Water Truck as well bleachers to the Lions Club for the Annual Demolition Derby to be held on Sunday, September 6.

Spar TCTrail2.3 The Trans Canada Trail (TCT)    Council authorized Coun. Qualizza to act as champion on behalf of council to declare their support of this national project. When fully connected, the TCT will be the longest and grandest recreational trail in the world, connecting Canadians in almost 1,000 municipalities in every province and territory.

2.4 Mobile Street Vending Policy  Council designated Station Square (lead image above) as the permanent place for Mobile Street Vendors and directed staff to revise the applicable bylaw and policy.

3. UPCOMING MEETINGS and OTHER NEWS

3.1 Campfire & Fireworks Ban   City of Fernie is still in effect for the City of Fernie & throughout the Southeast Fire Centre.

3.2 Next Regular Meeting and Committee of the Whole (COTW) – Monday, July 27 – COTW 10 a.m. & tegular 7 p.m.
