Fernie Transfer Station finally under way
The new Fernie Transfer Station is officially under construction. The long awaited milestone, more than 15 years in the formation, was celebrated Friday afternoon, Sept. 23 by – from left: District of Sparwood Councillor Gayle Travis; Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) Electoral Area A Director Mike Sosnowski; City of Fernie Mayor Cindy Corrigan; Kootenay East MLA Bill Bennett; District of Elkford Mayor Dean McKerracher; BPR Construction Site Superintendent Brett Rode; RDEK Solid Waste Superintendent Jim Penson; and RDEK Vice Chair and Electoral Area C director Rob Gay, who are pictured officially turning the sod at the site.
The land is currently being prepared, with the building itself slated to arrive in November. Construction of the new facility is expected to wrap up early in 2012.
