The first weekend of September, Kootenay Savings’ annual Family Movie in the Park series saw over 2,300 people – from newborns to great grandparents – come out to enjoy an outdoor movie under the stars and experience seeing The Lego Movie on a massive 30 foot tall inflatable screen.

Held September 5 in Kimberley and Trail and September 6 in Nakusp and Radium Hot Springs, the events were free for the public to attend.  Rather than pay an admission fee, everyone was instead encouraged to bring along a donation for their local food bank.

Thanks to all the moviegoers and wonderful community partners who helped make the events so successful! We are lucky to be part of such great and supportive communities.

Family Movie in the Park has been held at Coronation Park every year since it debuted in Kimberley in 2009. There were over 600 people in attendance this year and the food collected was valued at $1,975, along with cash donations of $384.

All donations benefit the Kimberley Helping Hands Food Bank.

This year’s event was the second annual for Radium. Hosted in partnership with the Village of Radium Hot Springs, it was held in the heart of the village in Central Park.

Making the showing unique is it’s the only one of the four events that is drive-in style.
Close to 250 pounds of food collected, as well as $230 in cash, from the estimated 350 attendees. All donations benefit the Columbia Valley Food Bank.
