Four Public Works crews currently active

Three City of Cranbrook Public Works water crews are actively working to restore water service to approximately 100 residences this afternoon after a failure in a pressure reducing station overnight Saturday is believed to have caused of up to eight water main breaks across the city.

A fourth water crew is set to begin work shortly to get water service back to everyone. One of the breaks is expected to be completed in the next hour or so. That crew will move up to a break on Brookview Crescent. It is expected that water service will be restored to most affected residents by the end of the day today or into tonight.

Residents are reminded that as the water service is restored and the water turned back on, you could experience dirty or discoloured water. This is due to the water pressure stirring up sediment in the water lines.

The discoloured water is not a health concern. Simply run your cold water tap until the water runs clear.

One of the water main breaks has created a large sinkhole on 20th Avenue near 3rd Street South, near the former Muriel Baxter School site. The area has been blocked off and drivers are asked to please avoid the area and use an alternate route.

The City of Cranbrook apologizes for any inconvenience this has caused. Crews are working hard to restore water service to all the affected residents as soon as possible.
