High avalanche hazard closes highways

Travellers be advised – Highway 93 through Kootenay National Park is closed due to high avalanche hazard. The road is closed between Radium Hot Springs and Castle Junction in Banff National Park.

According to DriveBC, the estimated time of the highway re-opening is Monday, March 10.

Highway 1 is also closed 18 km east of Golden because of high avalanche hazard, and the highway is also closed between Revelstoke and Golden for the same reason in Glacier National Park.

Estimated times of re-opening are 3 and 4 p.m. respectively, today.

There is also a wash out four km east of Fernie and Highway 3 is reduced to single lane, alternating traffic at this time.

And Kootenay Pass (Highway 3) is also currently closed due to high avalanche hazard, with Highway 3A serving as an alternative route.
