Injunction delays district cull until Feb. 24
The District of Invermere has been ordered by an interim injunction to delay the start of its planned urban deer cull. The district has a provincial government permit to cull 100 deer.
The Invermere Deer Protection Organization obtained the injunction from the B.C. Supreme Court.
“Late on February 9 the District of Invermere was notified of an interim injunction which prevents the District of Invermere from proceeding with the planned deer cull until February 24. We are disappointed by this last minute development, and the issue is now with our lawyers,” state Mayor Gerry Taft in an email.
“As this is an item that will be decided with the courts and is presently with our legal counsel, there is not much that the District of Invermere and members of council will be able to comment on at this time,” he concluded.
