29th ANNUAL IRON LEGS

City of Kimberley council March 12 received and approved a letter from the Kimberley Alpine Resort to hold their 29th Annual Iron Legs event on Saturday, March 24.

TEMPORARY CHANGE TO LIQUOR LICENCE

An application from the Kimberley Alpine Resort for a Temporary Change to a Liquor Licence was considered for the Stemwinder on April 6 – 8, with council providing no comment.

PROPOSED QUARRY AT CHERRY CREEK FALLS

Council received a letter from Area E Director, Jane Walter (RDEK) regarding a proposed Work Application for Mine Number 1630574, being a proposed quarry adjacent to the Cherry Creek Falls, and agreed to provide a letter a letter of opposition to the Minister of Energy & Mines.

KIMBERLEY COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY

Craig Hillman

Alison Ko and Craig Hillman were appointed to the Kimberley Community Development Society (KCDS) for 2012 and 2013.

BC MAYORS’ CAUCUS

Council authorized Mayor Ron McRae to attend the B.C. Mayors’ Caucus Inaugural Meeting, May 16-18, in Penticton.

KIMBERLEY URBAN DEER ADVISORY COMMITTEE

A letter of resignation from the Kimberley Urban Deer Advisory Committee from Bill Roberts was accepted. A report containing recommendations from the Committee was considered.Ā  Council appointed Sherry Shrieves-Adams and Mick Henningson to the Urban Deer Advisory Committee and approved an amendment to the Terms of Reference.

STRATEGIC COMMUNITY INVESTMENT FUNDS

City signatories were authorized to execute the agreement between the city and the Ministry of Community Sport & Cultural Development for the Strategic Community Investment Funds for the next three years.

RESORT MUNICIPALITY INITIATIVE

City signatories were authorized to sign the 2012 to 2016 Resort Municipality Initiative Memorandum of Understanding and the 2012 RMI Transfer Under Agreement with the Provincial Government.

BC WINTER/SUMMER GAMES 2016 & 2018

Council agreed that the city contact the City of Cranbrook for a possible partnership bid to submit an application for the B.C. Winter/Summer Games in 2016 and 2018.

MARK CREEK WATER RESOURCE INVENTORY

A report prepared by Nanrich Water Management titled ā€˜Mark Creek Water Resource Inventory – Hydrometric Report 2011ā€™ was received.

SEASONAL EMPLOYEES

The Operations Department was authorized to hire up to three seasonal employees.

EARTH HOUR 2012

Council approved the City taking part in the Annual Earth Hour on March 31.

BYLAWS

“Bylaw No. 2442, City of Kimberley Zoning Bylaw No.Ā  1850, 1994, Amendment No. 113, 2012ā€, was givenĀ  second and third readings and adopted.

PUBLIC HEARING/OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE REPRESENTATIONS

A Public Hearing/Opportunity to Make Representations to council has been scheduled for: Monday, March 26, at Council Chambers, City Hall 6:45 p.m.

Bylaw No. 2426, “Highway Closure and Dedication Removal Bylaw No. 2426, 2012” (portion of BryantĀ  Boulevard adjacent to 485 Ross Street).

Bylaw No. 2436, “Highway Closure and DedicationĀ  Removal Bylaw No. 2436, 2012” (portion of roadĀ  adjacent to 520 Cummings Road).

The next Regular Meeting of Council will be held on Monday, March 26, at 7 p.m.
