Landfill fire generating smoke by Fort Steele
A small fire has broken out in the green waste pile (yard / garden clippings) at the Central Subregion landfill.
The fire is creating smoke and concerns in the Fort Steele area.
“The pile is isolated to the green waste pile and there is no threat to structures or the surrounding area. We have two water trucks, a hoe and a D9 cat and are actively fighting the fire with assistance from a Wildfire Service crew, contractors and Regional District of East Kootenay staff,” reported RDEK information officer Loree Duczek.
