Prescribed burn a go for Sunday

A planned prescribed burn in the City of Kimberley, for the Levirs Avenue area, is scheduled for this Sunday (April 17) starting at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The burn is part of the City of Kimberley’s Community Wildfire Management Program, with the Kimberley Fire Department and the BC Wildfire Service conducting the six-hectares prescribed burn.

The prescribed burn will be located at the Burdette Street entrance to the Kimberley Nature Park up to the old gravel pit below Trickle Creek Golf Course.

The objective of this treatment is to reduce the risk of catastrophic fires in the Wildland Urban Interface adjacent to the City of Kimberley.

Kimberley Fire Department Chief Al Collinson said the burn had to be changed from Saturday to Sunday due to weather considerations.

“I realize this falls on the same day as the barbecue planned at Red`s, but unfortunately we do not have control over the weather for the prescribed burn,” he said.
