Sam Steele Days Society honoured

The Sam Steele Days Society is the 2013 recipient of the City of Cranbrook’s Sustainable Community Builder Award.

“This is a very worthwhile recipient of this award,” exclaimed Mayor Wayne Stetski May 12 when council unanimously approved the award nomination.

The award brings a $500 donation from the Cranbrook and District Community Foundation for the receiving person/organization to donate to a cause of their choice.

“They received a number of nominations. Congratulations to the Sam Steele Society,” said Coun. Denise Pallesen.

“I think it is really appropriate given it’s their 50th anniversary,” noted Coun. Sharon Cross.

“Fifty years is pretty sustainable,” added Stetski (pictured above in last year’s Sam Steele Days parade).

Coun. Diana J Scott pointed out that Sam Steele Days has grown considerably over the years into the premiere community event in the city.

“The event has grown astronomically. It’s not just a weekend party. It is a really meaningful weekend,” she said.

This year’s Sam Steele Days runs June 19-22.
