SD5 Board Notes

The following is a summary of School District No. 5 (SD5) school board of trustees’ motions carried during the January 13 board meeting in Cranbrook.

Motions Carried

Advocacy

That the Board amend the letter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper to include additional CCs, add a cover letter explaining our concerns and ask them to send to their stakeholders.

That the Board write a letter to the City of Cranbrook and the Regional District of East Kootenay to request they undertake a review of the procedures related to all advertising with respect to the election of SD5 Trustees for the City of Cranbrook and Electoral Area C.

Finance Ops

SD5 High school xingThat the Board write a letter to the City of Cranbrook requesting a flashing pedestrian light similar to the one at Victoria Ave and 4th Avenue be installed at the crosswalk from Mount Baker Secondary School to the Safeway parking lot.

General

That the board changes the In-camera board meeting to 1 p.m. and the public board meeting to 3:30 p.m. starting February 10.  These changes will be on a trial basis and are to be reviewed prior to the end of the 2014/15 school year.

That the board approves the Superintendent’s Report on Student Achievement 2014/2015.

M/S read a first time the Amended Annual Budget Bylaw for 2014/15 on Jan. 13. This is introductory only; discussion of budget pending, prior to second and third readings. By law, three readings of the bylaw must be completed prior to the end of June.

That the board approve the Secretary Treasurer to enter into an agreement with the bank to establish credit which will enable School District No 5. to issue purchase cards for employees.

That the board approves an increase in International Student Fees to $21,850 for the school year 2016

That the board submit to the city the names of trustees willing to sit on the city committees Cranbrook in Motion, Cranbrook Family and Community Services and Cranbrook Wellness and Heritage.
