SD5 Trustees’ News
Below is a summary of the main recommendations that were carried at the Jan. 10 School District No. 5 School Board of Trustees’ board meeting.
– The board completed two of three readings of the amended annual budget. To comply with the budget bylaw, third and final reading must be completed by the end of February.
– A sub-committee has been formed to discuss special education funding issues and audit results/recommendations. This committee will be comprised of trustees, district administration, CFTA (Cranbrook Fernie Teachers’ Association), CUPE (Canadian Union of Public Employees) and DPAC (District Parents’ Advisory Committee) representatives.
– Another sub-committee was formed to develop a Board Self Evaluation, with the assistance of the BCSTA (BC School Trustees’ Association). This committee will be comprised of Trustees Chris Johns, Olivia Besanger and Patricia Whalen.
– The board will discuss the new BC Education Plan and provide feedback/comments/suggestions and questions to the Minister of Education.
– The board approved new policies for: Disposal of Land or Improvements and Budget.
– Also of significant note is the upcoming visit to our district by Minister of Education, George Abbott, which was discussed by the board.
