SD5 welcomes new principal of Jaffray School
Ray Kitt, acting principal for Jaffray Elementary / Jr. Secondary School for the past year was officially appointed principal of the school as of the 2013/14 school year by the School District 5 (SD5) Board of Education.
According to SD5 Board chair, Frank Lento, Ray Kitt is an excellent fit for the school. “With around 175 students, Jaffray is the only Kindergarten to Grade 10 school in the district. It has a unique tradition of cooperation and mentorship that only a school with this size and age diversity can foster.”
“Ray’s had a very successful year as acting principal. He continues to uphold the traditions of Jaffray school using an enthusiastic, hands-on approach with students and staff.”
Kitt was born in Toronto, Ont., but has spent most of his life in the East Kootenay. Hired to teach at Sparwood Secondary school in 1977 he has been with the district ever since. In addition to teaching, Kitt has worked as vice-principal of Elkford Secondary School in Elkford and Mount Baker Secondary and Parkland Middle Schools in Cranbrook.
“This is my first experience at the elementary level,” said Kitt. “I love their enthusiasm for learning and I really enjoy seeing the kids make and do things that they are proud of.”
