Semi driver in critical condition after crash near Sparwood
RCMP East Kootenay Traffic Services continue to investigate a serious crash involving two semi tractor trailer units yesterday west of Sparwood.
Elk Valley RCMP officers were called to the collision on February 17 at approximately 6:30 p.m., three kilometres west of Sparwood on Highway 3. A semi tractor-trailer traveling west on Highway 3 jack-knifed and caused a collision with another semi tractor-trailer traveling east bound.
Emergency personnel responded immediately to the scene. The driver of the west bound semi tractor was unharmed; however, the driver of the east bound semi suffered serious life threatening injuries. The victim has since been flown to Calgary Foothills Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
“East Kootenay Traffic Service members including a Traffic Analyst continue to investigate this serious motor vehicle collision,” stated Sgt. Will Thien of the Elk Valley RCMP. “Winter Road conditions are being taken into account but the investigation is still ongoing.”
