Sparwood Council Facts

sparwoodlogoThe following is a synopsis of what occurred during the November 16 District of Sparwood council meeting.

Sparwood Heights recreation amenity consultation

The District of Sparwood is currently undertaking a community consultation process to guide the decision on the subject of a new recreation amenity in Sparwood Heights that will replace the tennis/basketball courts being removed as part of a new multi-famliy housing development.

Community Energy Association

sparwoodtownhallMegan Lohmann of the Community Energy Association (CEA) provided an overview to Council on home energy retrofit programs, exploration of organic waste diversion opportunities, policy development, and research into the development of an electric vehicle charging network.

The CEA supports local governments in developing and implementing community energy and emissions plans (also known as climate action plans, community energy plans, and local action plans). For more information on any of these programs contact Megan Lohmann at 250-531-0690 or [email protected].

On-street parking regulations October 1 – March 31

We would like to remind residents that the District’s Winter Parking Regulations came into effect on October 1st. Section 36 of the Sparwood Traffic, Parking and Highway Regulation Bylaw No. 472, 1987 prohibits on-street parking between the hours of 6 a.m. and 4 p.m., October 1 to March 31.

Residents should note that:

– Parking on the street during snow plowing, snow removal, snow hauling, or sanding operations is prohibited;

– It is an offence to push, place or throw or allow to be pushed, placed or thrown any snow or ice upon a highway or lane;

– That no advance warning is required under the bylaw and section 189 (1) (n) of the Motor Vehicle Act and offending vehicles will be towed.

Please make appropriate arrangements for parking your vehicles.

Annual Food Drive, Sunday Nov. 29 5:30 p.m.

Sparwood BC Ambulance, Fire Department, Cadets, and Search and Rescue will be having a Christmas Charity Drive for the local Food Bank and Toys for Tots.

Please be generous with donations of non-perishable food, new toys, monetary gifts, or Canadian Tire money. If you are not at home donations can be dropped off at Fire Hall #1, 479 Pine Avenue or just leave them on your front doorstep in a bag or box for pickup.

November 26, 6:30 p.m.: Santa lighting the Christmas Tree in Centennial Square. Bonfire and caroling!

December 13, 3:35 p.m.: Canadian Pacific Holiday Train behind the Leisure Centre.
