About new wildlife management model

1. The BC Liberal government, if re-elected, will create a wildlife management agency similar to the successful Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC created in 2003. All hunting license revenues will be dedicated to this new agency, with an additional $5 million injected as start-up capital.

2. Currently government spends $18 million annually on wildlife management activities not including salaries. Dedicating license revenues of $9 – $10 million to wildlife management means a 50% increase on top of the $18 million. A stand-alone agency may also be able to accept private donations to enhance management activities.

3. All details of the new agency will be created over the next few months through consultation with the BC Wildlife Federation, the BC Guide Outfitters, the BC Trappers and other groups. The purpose is to improve a wildlife management model that has been in place for 40 years and grow wildlife populations.
