Canal Flats voters to select new mayor

The Village of Canal Flats will have a new mayor Oct. 15 after the municipal election.

With Mayor Karl Sterzer opting not to run again, the village will be led by one of two current councillors, Mark Doherty and Douglas McCutcheon.

Voters will also have eight choices for the four council seats, with only one incumbent, Bill Lake in the mix.

The seven other candidates are: Denis Babin; Allan Gauthier; Anora Kobza; Jennifer Noble; Cody McKersie; Patricia Reed; and Justin Stanbury.

Village voters will also have a plebiscite question: “Do you support the Village of Canal Flats retaining the services of a professional to design and investigate the costs associated with construction of a new community hall?”

Election day is Saturday, Oct. 15, with the Columbia Discovery Centre (village hall) the place to vote between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Advance voting is taking place Wednesday, Oct. 5 and Thursday, Oct. 13.
