Village tackling extremely important issue

utejurasMessage from the Mayor

By Mayor Ute Juras,

Village of Canal Flats

Well, I don’t know about the rest of you, but I can’t believe summer is almost over. I hope everyone had a chance to get in some relaxation and enjoy the beautiful weather we were having.

By now, you should have all received the Notice of Council Initiative regarding the Merging and the Borrowing Bylaws for the Proposed Water System Area. Please be sure to read the information very carefully and please, please don’t hesitate to call me, the village office or any of the other councillors if you have any questions or need clarification.

I would also like to draw your attention to the ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ page that was included in the package. This is a very complicated, but extremely important issue that council has been discussing for a long time now in excruciating detail working through numerous options.

We feel that this option is the best one for the future needs of the village. We completely understand if there is some confusion, therefore, again, please let us help you make sense of it before you make your final decision.

On a lighter side, we are in full planning mode for the Grand Opening of the Columbia Discovery Centre. The date is Saturday, September 14 at 11 a.m. We hope that you will join us in the celebration, which will feature the official ribbon cutting, flag raising debuting our new flag designed by Leslie Cartwright, demonstrations by the Ktunaxa First Nations drying station and pit cooking, door prizes and so much more.

We will also serve refreshments and invite everyone for a tour of the facility. The Arts Society will also be hosting an Arts Show the same day to show off their new home within the building.

CFArenaPlease be sure to mark the date on your calendar and we hope to see you there.

The other big project in the village, namely the arena upgrades, is coming along very nicely as well. The concrete for the slab was poured on August 15. This was a major milestone and it is looking like we are right on target. Look for an official re-opening ceremony sometime in October.

That is all I have for you at this time. If you have any questions, concerns or need information on anything that is going on, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Take care and enjoy the rest of the summer.
