Charges laid following a targeted knife assault

Two suspects in an edged weapon assault were taken into police custody, early Wednesday afternoon, during a high risk take down in the Invermere area.

On October 9, at approx. 12:10 p.m., Columbia Valley RCMP responded to a report of a knife assault that had taken place inside a location along Forsters Landing Road in Radium Hot Springs. Frontline officers responded to the scene.

A bystander transported the 24-year-old assault victim to an area hospital for medical treatment. His injuries were not life threatening in nature.

Early in the investigation, officers were able to identify two male suspects believed to be involved in the knife attack, stated Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson the BC RCMP Southeast District.

A short time after 12:40 p.m., RCMP spotted the suspects inside a black BMW sedan, and performed a traffic stop in the vicinity of the Althalmer Bridge in Invermere. Due to the involvement of a weapon, both suspects were taken into police custody as part of a high risk take down.

RCMP report that 37-year-old Abdourahamane Dabo of Invermere has now been formally charged with the following criminal offences: break and enter with intent to commit an offence, assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and three counts of uttering threats.

A 54-year-old man was later released from custody on strict conditions. He faces potential charges and is expected to appear in court at a later date.

Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police, or anyone with any additional information is urged to contact the Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment at 250-342-9292. Or if you wish to remain completely anonymous you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 with your tip information.
