Columbia Valley RCMP Report

This past week, June 15 through June 21, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 72 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files to which our officers responded.

Traffic stop produces charges

On Wednesday, June 17 at 9:30 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop with a Jeep on Highway 93/95 near Windermere and discovered the driver was prohibited from driving. An adult male passenger was discovered to have warrants for his arrest. Both males were released on appearance notices to attend court at a later date.

Speeding stop results in three-day driving prohibition and vehicle impoundment

On Thursday, June 18 at 12:15 a.m., an officer was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 93/95 in Fairmont Hot Springs when he stopped the driver of a Honda CRV for speeding. While the officer was speaking to the driver he formed suspicion the driver had alcohol in his body. The driver complied with a roadside breath demand and blew a “Warn.” As a result, the driver received a three-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for three days. The driver also received violation tickets for driving contrary to restrictions and possession of liquor by a minor.

Mountain bike stolen from Invermere yard

On Thursday, June 18, an Invermere resident reported a men’s black Diamondback mountain bike was stolen from their yard on 12th Avenue. The theft was believed to have occurred sometime between Saturday and Tuesday. The bike had a Tigger sticker and red, grey and black grips. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crimestoppers or the Columbia Valley Detachment.

Video allows for swift arrest of water thief

On Friday, June 19, three 20 litre water bottles were reported stolen from a property on Highway 93/95 near Windermere. An officer viewed video surveillance of the theft and recognized the adult female who allegedly took the water bottles. An adult female from Windermere was arrested for theft and released on conditions to attend court at a later date.

Driver arrested for prohibited driving

On Friday, June 19, at about 9:15 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop with the driver of a Chevrolet Venture and discovered the driver was prohibited from driving. The driver was arrested for prohibited driving and released on an Appearance Notice to attend court at a later date. The vehicle was impounded.
