Conservative candidate hosting trio of MPs

Kootenay-Columbia Conservative candidate RobĀ Morrison is hosting three sitting MPs Saturday, March 23 at the Columbia Valley Chamber of Commerce.

MPs Blake Richards (Banff-Airdrie), Dayne Lloyd (Sturgeon River-Parkland) and Michael Barrett (Leedsā€”Grenvilleā€”Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes) will be on hand for an open discussion from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

MP Blake Richards

First elected in 2008, Blake Richards was re-elected for a third time in the new riding of Banff-Airdrie on October 19, 2015. Blake serves as the Official Opposition Shadow Cabinet Minister for Small Business, Export Promotion and Tourism. He is currently a member of the FinanceĀ Committee. Blake has also served as the Shadow Cabinet Minister for Democratic Institutions and was the Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs. While serving on the government side of the House of Commons, Blake chaired two standing policy committees and was Chair of the Parliamentary Tourism Caucus. He also frequently represented the government in regional and national media. Always focused on the needs of his constituents, Blake has three times been named Canadaā€™s Best Constituency MP as well as Hardest Working MP, and in 2015 received a Canadian Tourism Award for his work in Parliament on behalf of the tourism industry.

MP Dane Lloyd

Dane Lloyd is the Conservative Member of Parliament for Sturgeon River-Parkland. His family has farmed outside of Spruce Grove for generations and Dane is proud to call Alberta his home. Dane graduated from Trinity Western University with a degree in History and Political Studies in 2013. A former Parliamentary Advisor to St. Albert-Edmonton MP Michael Cooper, he previously worked for the Honourable Ed Fast, former Minister of International Trade, and worked under the Honourable Jason Kenney at the Department of Citizenship and Immigration. He currently holds a commission as an infantry officer in the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves.

MP Michael Barrett

Michael Barrett lives in Leedsā€”Grenvilleā€”Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes with his wife Amanda, and their four children. Following his service in the Canadian Armed Forces, Michael was elected to represent the village of Spencerville and the agricultural area of Edwardsburgh Cardinal on municipal council. In addition to his regular duties, he is also the Chair of the Public Works, Environmental Service, and Facilities Committee of the Whole. With his Council colleagues, Michael focused on economic development and job creation.Ā Those efforts were realized with the opening of several new industrial park-based businesses, including the opening of the Giant Tiger Distribution Centre that saw the creation of over 350 jobs. Michael has worked as a Human Resources Manager for an Ottawa-based business since the completion of his military service.Ā For the past five years, Michael has also been involved in the local Conservative Electoral District Association, including as President, campaign volunteer, and as an organizer of local meetings with stakeholders.
