Cross River evacuation alert rescinded

A long summer on the edge has come to an end for nine property owners in the Cross River area, including Nipika Mountain Resort, east of Radium Hot Springs.

Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) Board Chair Rob Gay this afternoon signed an order rescinding the evacuation alert issued to the Cross River/Nipika Mountain Resort area on August 8 due to wildfire.

This is the last of the evacuation orders and alerts issued by the RDEK this fire season.

“Although crews will continue to work on the fire, things have progressed to the point where the BC Wildfire Service felt it was safe to lift the alert, which is great news!  There are no longer any evacuation alerts or orders in effect in the RDEK boundary,” said RDEK communications manager Loree Duczek.
