CVRFRS urges extra caution around spring burning

Following an out-of-control grass fire in the Columbia Valley this past week and with numerous concerned calls to fire halls and firefighters, Columbia Valley Rural Fire and Rescue Services is reminding people to please use extra caution when engaging in any spring burning activities.

“Please do not leave any fire unattended. Despite the recent cool weather and snow/rain, vegetation is still dormant and has not begun to take up any moisture making fire behaviour surprisingly active,” Columbia Valley Rural Fire & Rescue Services (CVRFRS) stated on social media.

“Please be sure to have adequate persons, tools and water available to deal with any fire that might escape. Please observe weather factors and forecast winds, and ask ‘what can go wrong’, or consider other options to burning.”

Please visit BCWildfire.ca for more information and regulations.
