CVSAR issues important seasonal reminder
Columbia Valley Search and Rescue (CVSAR) was last week tasked for an overdue solo hiker.
A team of members searched the suspected location with the help of Glacier Helicopters Invermere but did not locate the subject or evidence of them in the area. The search was called off later that day by RCMP.
As a result, CVSAR issued a social media reminder that as fall approaches, days are getting shorter, which limits the amount of daylight that SAR can perform rescue operations. “Helicopter access is unlikely at night meaning that subjects may need to be reached by foot during the night or wait for first light,” CVSAR said.
If you need help, call 9-1-1 immediately to allow the appropriate resources to be dispatched.
“Kudos to the family members on this call for alerting the RCMP in a timely manner,” CVSAR concluded.
