Detour reprieve begins Dec. 23

Traffic volumes should decrease in the Columbia Valley starting Dec. 23, when the Trans-Canada Highway opens east of Golden until noon on Jan. 4.

The Kicking Horse Canyon project, now in phase four, has channeled traffic through Kootenay National Park to Radium Hot Springs and then up Highway 95 to Golden during full and partial closures the past few months.

From December 1 through to April 2022, the highway will be open with 30-minute stoppages. These stoppages will generally occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and 6 to 10 p.m. There will also be overnight full closures (10 p.m. to 7 a.m.) nightly.

During the winter holiday period from December 23 until noon January 4, there will be no stoppages or closures due to Phase 4 construction.

Please check out the project highway status calendar for up-to-date info.
